Today we are honored to introduce Guardoc Health - an AI-powered SaaS platform designed by nurses for nurses, with a mission to transform medical compliance and enhance patient care. We have raised $3M in seed funding, led by the Israeli venture firm Pitango HealthTech, through its $150M fund specifically focused on health tech. Pitango HealthTech partner Jonathan Glazer is a former ER physician and executive and immediately recognized the market need and potential success with Guardoc Health. European VC investor Bertelsmann Investments, US investor Springbank, Israeli investors Fresh.fund and Oded Barel-Sebag also participated in the round.

Our journey, fueled by a commitment to alleviate the burdens faced by healthcare professionals, has led to the creation of a tool that not only meets compliance regulations but also optimizes revenue management—all without adding extra tasks to nurses' already demanding workloads.

Addressing a broken system

As an emergency room nurse and clinical compliance consultant for long-term care home care and hospices, I saw firsthand how broken the US medical compliance system is. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the largest payer in the US healthcare system, insures 116 million chronically ill American adults. These patients generate an overwhelming 4.7 billion encounters annually that must be audited for compliance. Currently, this arduous task falls on nurses, who must ensure every encounter meets strict regulations to secure payments and avoid penalties for clinics.

The traditional compliance process is reactive and manual, placing undue pressure on an already overburdened nursing workforce facing the most significant shortage in history. This outdated system not only contributes to a staggering $40 billion in payment losses for providers due to non-compliance but also compromises patient care. The reliance on manual intake and disparate data systems heightens the risk of human error. I’ve seen with my own eyes how this can result in life-or-death situations for patients and accelerates burnout for nurses.

Introducing Guardoc Health

Guardoc Health is the first AI-powered SaaS solution to integrate seamlessly with electronic healthcare records, identifying errors, discrepancies, and gaps in real-time clinical charting. This integration facilitates timely corrections and mitigates risks, significantly enhancing the quality of patient care.

Our technology leverages advanced machine learning and natural language models, continually refined and audited by practicing nurses to ensure seamless integration into daily workflows. This meticulous approach streamlines patient care processes and ensures the tool remains intuitive and user-friendly for healthcare professionals.

Big gains and early wins

Our inaugural product is already demonstrating transformative results. In beta testing across six US-based healthcare organizations over the past six months, clinics using our product have experienced:

  • A 50% reduction in average charting errors per nurse.

  • An 86% decrease in errors affecting patient outcomes.

  • Two clinics experienced a 100% citation-free state survey, a dramatic improvement from previous records of over 23 documentation-related errors.

  • A projected 90% annual reduction in hours nurses spend on auditing.

  • Integration with Point Click Care for easy access to Guardoc Health for their customers

These early product gains underscores not only potential of Guardoc Health to disrupt healthcare compliance and patient care, but also to bring hugely needed support functions to the day to day role of hardworking nurses. This seed funding round, led by firms from three continents, highlights the global recognition of the need for improved compliance practices and patient outcomes. Starting with a focus on long-term health facilities in the US, we aim to refine our product and expand its applications.
